The incidents took place in Trumbull at Hillcrest Middle School around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14.
Police responded to the school after being notified of a fight in which a 13-year-old pulled a knife during a fight with another teen, said Lt. Brian Weir, of the Trumbull Police.
When police arrived they were provided with a description of the youth with the knife by witnesses who said two teens were fighting and one pulled a knife, Weir said.
The 13-year-old, of the town of Fairfield, was eventually located by police and a camouflage pocket knife was found in his possession, Weir said.
The teen told police he had no intention of using it, and that he just carried it for protection.
He was arrested for his involvement in the altercation and charged with possession of a deadly weapon and breach of peace. He was released to the custody of his mother, Weir said.
"Throughout the night numerous officers were dealing with the many groups of unruly roving groups of juveniles who were causing disturbances at the carnival," Weir added.
At one point, a large group of juveniles was seen running towards the wood line with their phones out stating that "there is about to be a fight".
Responding officers found a large group of teens circling around two other juveniles who were actively fighting while the group recorded the incident on their cell phones, police said.
Officers were able to quickly break up this fight and take both of these teens into police custody.
One involved juvenile stated that he was approached by an unknown group of teens who asked him if he wanted to "slap box" another male for $10, Weir said.
The juvenile agreed to it and did not know who the other male juvenile was. The involved juvenile stated he and the other male began to “slap box” at which time police arrived and broke them up.
The teens stated that it was not a real fight it was just a TikTok trend that is popular where teens slap each other as if fighting, police said.
The teens 15, and 16, were charged with breach of peace and released to guardians.
No injuries were reported at the carnival.
